Quentin Spohn (FR) - "... et dans ce clair-obscur surgissent les monstres"
The exhibition « … et dans ce clair-obscur surgissent les monstres » lies at the intersection of two directions I have taken in recent years. On the one hand, through drawings and a video (derived from an installation created in 2022 in collaboration with my brother), I have focused on the rise of reactionary movements and far-right radicalism. On the other hand, I attempt to reflect on our relationship with technology, our fascination with NewSpace, transhumanism, and the mythologies conveyed by GAFAM.
The world current events, each more astonishing than the last (Trump’s election, the attack on The Capitol, Musk’s Hitler salute, the shift to the right in European politics), have been a driving force behind these various creations. These works combine various artistic influences : from satirical art to parodic science-fiction, via the world of circus. They also echo artists who have had a profound influence on me : James Ensor, Honoré Daumier, the artists of New Objectivity (Otto Dix, George Grosz, or Max Beckmann).
