Créée en 2014 par le NAK (Aachen, DE), l’ikob (Eupen, BE) et Les Brasseurs (Liège, BE), à l’initiative des curateurs Ben Kaufmann, Maïté Vissault et Yannick Franck, interSOUND est une structure destinée à promouvoir la rencontre sensible entre le monde du son et celui de l’art contemporain ainsi que sa diffusion dans les musées, centres d’art et galeries. Il fait ainsi dialoguer des artistes sonores qui interviennent dans le champ visuel et des artistes plasticiens qui interviennent dans le champ du sonore, favorisant de cette manière la mise en réseau d’institutions, d’artistes et curateurs internationaux actifs dans ces domaines. Tout comme les expériences inédites qu’il provoque, le programme d’interSOUND se déploie dans différents formats pouvant mêler performances, expositions, conférences, etc.
Loin d’être exhaustif, ce premier festival propose en l’espace d’une journée de faire intervenir des créateurs et acteurs culturels représentatifs dediverses tendances actuelles concernés par la création sonore contemporaine et son extension au delà des cadres conventionnels.

Created in 2014 by NAK (Aachen, DE), IKOB (Eupen, BE) and Les Brasseurs (Liège, BE) at the initiative of curators Ben Kaufmann, Maïté Vissault and Yannick Franck, interSOUND is a structure dedicated to the promotion of sound in the contemporary art context and its diffusion in museums, art centers and ga leries. It creates a dialogue between visual artists working with sound and sound artists working in the visual realm and works for the development of an international network between artists, curators and institutions active in this field and beyond its traditional delimitations. Interdisciplinary by essence, interSOUND proposes events such as performances, exhibitions, lectures…
Far from being exhaustive, this first one evening festival wi present artists and cultural entrepreneurs that are representative of different tendances within contemporary sound creation and its extension through non-conventional contexts.

Brian Eno
Hans Bocxstael fait partie de l'équipe de programateurs de Netwerk - centre d'art contemporain. Il se concentre principalement sur le son, la musique et le cinéma.
Il programme des concerts et événements aventureux et est curateur d'une exposition biennale dédiée au son depuis 2010.
Aux Brasseurs, il nous prêtera ses oreilles, l'air de rien...

Hans Bocxstael is part of the artistic team in Netwerk, center for contemporary art, with a main focus on sound, music and film.
Next to promoting adventurous concerts & events, he curates a biennial exhibition on sound since 2010.

"Le crayon bruisse sur le papier. Est-ce que le dessinateur a perdu de vue son intention ? Est-ce qu'il tourne en rond ? Il écoute les sons d'ambiance qui interfèrent dans le tête à tête entre le papier et le crayon. Le va-et-vient de la mer, les bribes de mots, une rue, des bruits de bottes, des cris, un rire – quelque chose le tire. Lentement, se font jour les circonstances dans lesquelles il se trouve."
"The pencil rushes over the paper. Did the drawer lose his intention ? Does he circle around himself ? But he listens to the ambience that interferes in the tête à tête of pencil and paper. The breaking waves, snippets of words, a street, sabre-rattling, cries, laughter – something takes him away. Slowly it shows up, in which circumstances he finds himself."

VUELTA est un hydre magnétique à nombreuses têtes, un sampleur archaïque fait de cassettes audio bricolées. À partir d’une collection d’enregistrements glanés de ci de là, il sillonne des thèmes et atmosphères variés, des plus musicaux et cinématographiques aux plus bruitistes.
Au fil de ses pérégrinations, Sébastien Demeffe compose des morceaux "thématiques"... Il s'est dernièrement concentré sur celui du moteur à explosion. Les ronrons crachotants des mécaniques s'y trouvent manipulés en direct, entrecoupés de documents sonores issus d’une époque révolue. Cette pièce sera suivie en contrepoint d'une chanson d'amour, sorte de bestiaire sonore sur un rythme endiablé.
VUELTA is a magnetic hydra, an archaïc sampler made of tinkered audio tapes. Using a collection of field recordings and old documents, he explores several thematics and atmospheres, from the most musical and narrative to the most radical, noisy ones.
Along his many wanderings, Sébastien Demeffe proposes thematic "songs"... He lately focused on combustion engines. Purring and spluttering mechanical noises find themselves processed in real time, interrupted by several testimonies of a bygone era. As a counterpoint, this piece will be followed by a love song, an insanely rythmed sonic bestiary!

Concert
Jason Van Gulick propose, depuis plusieurs années, des projets sonores singuliers en solo, dans et en lien avec différents espaces. À travers l’expérimentation sonore et l’improvisation, il explore les capacités des percussions et leurs facultés de propagation dans l’espace. Il utilise ainsi la réverbération naturelle du son pour que les lieux eux-mêmes deviennent une composante sonore et musicale.
Pour cette soirée aux Brasseurs il proposera une nouvelle orientation de ses recherches. Un set de percussions minimaliste et fragmenté dont chaque élément sera exploité au maximum de ses caractéristiques sonores.
For many years now, Jason Van Gulick works on singular solo projects that relate to architectural spaces. Through sound experimentation and improvisation, he explores the possibilities of percussions and their behaviour while propagating in space. He uses natural reverberation in order to use the spaces as a fully integrated part of the performative musical process.
For this evening at Les Brasseurs he will give us to hear a new direction his work has taken. A minimalist percussion set will be used to the maximum of its acoustic caracteristics.
